Professional Golf Returns to Western North Carolina

Asheville Buncombe Regional Sports Commission (ABRSC) and the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) jointly announced today that Mission Foundation will sponsor the Friends of Mission Charity Classic, a new tournament on the 2013 Symetra Tour — Road to the LPGA. It will be held from Friday, May 17 through Sunday, May 19, at the Country Club of Asheville in Asheville, NC. The Friends of Mission Charity Classic will feature a field of professional women golfers from around the world competing for a total purse of $100,000.

Leicester Elementary’s New Obstacle Challenge Race for KIDS!

Wild Cat Challenge 1st Annual Race will be for children ages 4-14 and consist of a mile run with 10-12 obstacles on Saturday, May 12. Run, crawl, jump, climb, and challenge your way through obstacles you have never done before. Wild Cat Challenge Race at Leicester Elementary is a fundraising event to fund after school programs Love Ahtletes will be offering, so the program will be offered at no cost throughout the year to students.
Asheville to host USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Championships

This afternoon USA Cycling announced that Asheville will host the Cyclo-cross National Championships on Biltmore Estate in January 2016. USA Cycling evaluated potential host cities using various criteria, including: accessibility, community support, course options, technical expertise and the organization’s commitment to volunteer recruitment, marketing and lodging.
Asheville named a finalist to host USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Championships

Asheville has been selected as one of three finalist to host the 2014 and 2015 USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Championships, USA Cycling announced Wednesday. The three potential host cities are Asheville, N.C. (Biltmore Estate), Austin, Texas (Zilker Park) and Boulder, Colo. (Valmont Bike Park).
