Volunteers are need to support the Southern Conference Basketball Championships being held at Kimmel Arena and the U.S. Cellular Center on March 7 - 10. Biltmore Volleyball Academy (BVA) will host the 18th Annual Jr. Hi Neighbor Volleyball Tournament in the Asheville area April 12-13. The tournament will bring just over 130 teams; girls age 13-18, to the Asheville area to compete. An estimated total of 3,000-4,000 people from the southeast-North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Virginia, and Ohio will travel to the mountains for the final tournament of the regular season. Matches will be held at college, high school, and recreation facilities in Buncombe and Henderson Counties including AB Tech, Mars Hill College, Asheville, North Buncombe, AC Reynolds, and Hendersonville High Schools. The games are open to the general public at no cost and are an excellent opportunity to support this growing sport which many players continue in college.

In observance of Brain Injury Awareness Month, MAHEC to host two conference's focused on the effects of concussion on middle and high school-aged athletes. Friday, February 28 is an evening session geared to parents, athletes, coaches titled "More than 'Getting Your Bell Rung': Concussion in Youth/Recreational Athlete". The program continues on Saturday, March 1st with programs geared towards trainers and other medical professionals working in sports. Learn more on the MAHEC website.
